Hey guys!
Since it’s been freaking forever since my last Top 5 Wednesday post and I feel super lame about it, I thought I’d make one and kick off 2017 the right way. Or something like that.
Top 5 Wednesday was created by Laney at Gingerreadslainey and is now run by Sam at Thoughts on Tomes. Basically, there’s a new bookish category each week and I write about my top 5 things in that category every Wednesday. Click here to go to the Goodreads page to get signed up.
This Week’s Topic:
2017 Goals
“These do not need to be reading goals specifically, they can be any goals you want to talk about. Reading goals, blog/channel/instagram goals, personal goals…anything!”
First of all, I want to start this list off with my reading goal for 2017, the only goal that I’ve actually set for myself already. My reading goal for this year is to read at least 40 books this year. I always read about other bloggers reading 200 books or something. Frankly, a goal of 200 books makes me feel the impending tremors of a nervous breakdown before I even start. If I read more than 40 books this year, that’s awesome. But I’m trying to set realistic goals, factoring in the eventual life complications and reading ruts that are bound to happen.
That brings me to my second goal for 2017, which is to try to be kinder to myself. Lame as it sounds, this is really hard for me to do! I tend to have all these stupidly superhuman expectations for myself and I want to tone that down in a huge way. So, I’m going to work on annihilating the self criticisms and the pressure to be awesome all the time.
My third goal is to be more mindful and to meditate once a day. I have all this awesome meditation music and a couple of malas just sitting here, so let’s use them already! I literally have no excuse. None at all. *deep breath* So, I’m going to start meditating for 10 minutes everyday.
My fourth goal is going to be about my comfort zone. It’s been way too freaking comfortable around here and way too long since I’ve done anything to push me out of my comfort zone. *sigh* I’m a creature of comfort for sure. Even doing one thing a month would be pretty amazing progress. My hubby has been really great for facilitating this particular goal. The reason that I say this is that I have this super lame fear of travelling, and he pushes me to go on little vacays all the freaking time. He loves to travel and meet new people and weird extroverted sh*t like that. I’ll work on it. I promise.
My fifth and final goal for 2017 is to ramp up my library volunteering shenanigans from hardly ever to a few times this year. At the library by my house, they have a tonne of awesome programs. The one I used to volunteer for is one that gives newcomers to Canada and English Language Learners a chance to beef up their skills. I had a heap of fun doing it in the past and I’d love to get back into it.
I can’t imagine the pressure of trying to read 200 books in one year! I’m happy if I make it to 24! Love your goal list, and here’s to enjoying every day in reaching them.

Good luck with your goals this year! I’d like to try meditating, too — do you know of any good resources for beginners?

Thank you! When I first started meditating, I think I was listening to a guided meditation app called Headspace, which I found pretty helpful. I also started reading a book called The Heart of the Buddha’s Teaching by Thick Nhat Hanh. Those resources were both really helpful for me when I started. Hope this helps!
