Hey guys!
I hope that you’re feeling really great and enjoying spring as we see the start of April. Holy crap, I can hardly believe how fast this year is going! The book I want to tell you all about this week is called Strong is the New Pretty by Kate T. Parker. I totally love when I get the chance to tell you all about a book that is a complete change from the typical thrillers that make up most of my reading list. This book is definitely a solid diversion from the books that I usually read, and I loved every bit of it! Because this book is based in photographs of girls that are living life unabashed and unashamed, the book was a super quick read. I adored the empowering and motivational quotes from the young girls themselves. Before I say anything else, I want to say a big thank you to NetGalley and Workman Publishing Company for sending me a copy of this book for review. Because I’m so excited about this one, I’m just going to get straight to the summary!
Being a girl is nothing without its challenges, and fear of being too loud or too wild should never be listed among them. Kate T. Parker makes sure that her daughters (and girls in general) know this in the core of their being and that they live life fearlessly and passionately. In her book filled with 175 photographs of girls getting covered in mud with smiles on their faces, we get to see what the joy of being a girl is really about. In this book, being yourself is so much more important than the way any girl looks, and I absolutely loved it! Real beauty is about authenticity and having fun. Parker showcases the beauty that she finds in the candid images of girls, and it is amazing. This book is more than a collection of awe-inspiring photos though, it’s a celebratory presentation of the meaning of confidence and personal strength that can and should be in every young girl. Largely focused on pictures of young athletes, this book speaks to much more than athleticism – It is about the power of self confidence and personal strength in a growing generation of girls.
I loved this book! The girls in this book reminded me just how truly great it is to be one of them, and I’ve never been quite so proud of us. The quotes were spectacular, the photographs were phenomenal and gorgeous, and the layout of this book was just stunning. I’m so super happy that I read this book, and that the PDF format did all of the photos justice. This book was just so, so great! I only wish that I had read it years ago, when I was a bit younger. This book would have given me the much needed confidence to get through the awkward teen years. Seriously. So, so awkward. Was there anything about this book that I didn’t like as much? Not at all! As I said, I only wish I could have read it sooner. Everything about this book is completely perfect. I would absolutely recommend this book to anyone who has a little girl or a sister or is a girl or is possibly in need of a reminder of what makes us so awesome. Even If you know already what makes us awesome, I would still recommend it!
This is a great review! I’ve never heard of this book but I have to get it. It sounds like a great one to share with my daughter. I do a blog series called #booksoverlooks. This books is the same kind of idea. Love it! Thanks for finding and reviewing this!
