Review: The Girl From the Sea by Shalini Boland

I just finished reading an amazing book last night and I can’t wait to tell you guys all about it! This book is called The Girl From the Sea by Shalini Boland and I loved it to bits! I think that the cover caught my interest initially. (Look how pretty it is!) When I read the summary for the story, I was even more intrigued, and I can hardly contain my excitement about this book!! Okay, breathe… So before I get dizzy from all the booky excitement, I need a say a huge thank you to NetGalley and Adrenaline Books for sending me a copy for this review. This book has so many twists and turns that I wasn’t sure where I was or who I could actually trust until the end of it all. There were so many pieces of this story that I’m way too excited to tell you about, so before I get overwhelmed by all the awesomeness, let’s get to the summary!

When we first meet our main character, she’s falling and falling lower into the sea, desperate for air and survival. She later wakes up in the hospital, not being able to remember the year, her address, or her name. This part of the story made me wonder what we are left with if we are deprived of our basic identity. How do we start to build ourselves again? Luckily, someone had reported her missing. Whoever this person was could be the key to rediscovering who she is. After checking this person out thoroughly, the police verify that she is very likely who this person says she is, Mia James. The man who reported her missing identifies himself as her boyfriend and shows her where she lives and tells Mia about her family. He indicates that she moved away from her family 3 years ago when she inherited 8 million dollars, and her family wanted a large chunk of the money. As she tries to put the pieces together, we wonder right along with her which parts of this whole situation can be trusted and which just can’t.

This book was genius. I loved that the author did such an amazing job of teasing out the truth. I couldn’t turn the page fast enough and I was so excited to find out who in her life she could actually depend on. I loved the characters because they all seemed to constantly be revealing pivotal plot points and making everything a whole lot more intense. In addition to the writing style and the characters, I was also hugely in love with the ending. Holy crap, I loved the ending. What did I not like so much about this book? I really can’t think of anything at all that I disliked about the book. It was a suspenseful and enjoyable book that I liked an awful lot. I would absolutely recommend this book to anyone who loves thrillers and riveting plot twists. The main character isn’t an easy one to get to know right away, but I would definitely recommend this book for someone who loves character development. The character development in this book was absolutely perfect. I loved this book so, so much!
